Market Assistant  (part time, seasonal)

Sequoia Herbals is hiring a market assistant to support sales of our handcrafted herbal products (teas, tinctures, syrups, etc.) at pop-up markets and holiday markets this fall. Learn about herbal medicine, engage with people, and support a local business in a fun, lively setting! *Note, we are also hiring a part-time Apothecary Assistant to help with medicine making, please inquire if interested, as these positions may be combined.

Position: Support lead herbalist in selling handcrafted herbal products at pop-up and holiday markets (2-4 a month), from September-end of December. These markets are on weekends (usually Saturdays or Friday nights). Position includes setting up and dismantling booth, moving equipment, engaging with people and explaining the products, serving tea samples, making sales using Square. The holiday markets can be quite busy, so applicant must be comfortable in a bustling atmosphere, talking to lots of people.

Required skills:

  • Interest in herbal medicine and desire to learn (experience with herbal medicine is preferred)

  • Strong verbal communication skills and enjoys talking to people. Energy and enthusiasm are a plus!

  • Comfortable in a busy, bustling atmosphere where things may move quickly

  • Some sales experience preferred

  • Punctual

  • Able to lift 30 lb and stand on feet for long stretches of time

  • Willing to commit to the full market season (2-4 weekend markets a month, Sept- Dec)

  • Able to travel to markets in Durham, Cary (possibly Raleigh)

  • Able to work some Saturdays and Friday evenings

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with herbal medicine

  • Experience selling at markets or using square is ideal (though not necessary)

Salary: This is a part time position, with 2-4 markets a month (schedule varies, as these are pop-up markets). Starting pay $17/hr with potential for increase and bonuses for exceptional sales. Discount on herbal products and apothecary products offered as well.

Apothecary Assistant (part-time)

Sequoia Herbals is hiring a part-time assistant to help make herbal medicine in our apothecary! Help us craft herbal products, including teas, tinctures, syrups, and salves. The position includes a lot of repetitive tasks, such as straining tinctures, bottling, labeling, washing dishes, and occasionally supporting lead herbalist in medicine making (e.g., elderberry syrup, salves). There’s opportunity to learn and try herbs as well! We’re looking for someone with an interest in herbal medicine, and a strong attention to detail, who can also work independently.

Location: Apothecary in South Durham

​

Schedule: 3-5 hrs/week, as needed. Ideally weekdays, schedule will be discussed with employee upon hire. September-November 2024 (with the possibility of continuing again next spring).

Required Skills

  • Interest in herbal medicine and desire to learn medicine making

  • Punctual

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Organized

  • Able to follow instructions carefully

  • Doesn’t mind repetitive tasks (straining tinctures with cheesecloth, washing dishes, bottling, blending teas, etc.)

  • Self-motivated and able to work independently

Preferred skill:

  • Experiencing using or making herbal medicine is ideal, but not required

​

Pay: $17/hr to start, with opportunity to grow.
