Class Description

Learn to make your own tinctures for your home apothecary, with the guidance of a Clinical Herbalist! Why make herbal tinctures? Tinctures are plant extracts made with alcohol, offering a shelf stable and convenient form of herbal medicine that you can take on the go, in the middle of the night, or when an herb is just not tasty in a tea! Making an herbal tincture offers an affordable way to preserve the gorgeous medicine growing in your garden and expand your apothecary, plus it’s affordable! Yet tincture-making can seem confusing when reading it in a book… All those ratios, terms and math can feel overwhelming. In this hands-on class we’ll break it down with simple steps! We’ll gather in the apothecary to make our own tinctures! First we’ll cover the basics, then we’ll dive a bit deeper. You’ll learn how to make simple folk tinctures with fresh herbs from the garden, as well as the slightly more advanced method, which involves blending your own alcohol menstruum. - Learn to make tinctures with fresh and dried herbs - Harvest herbs from the garden and make a folk tincture - Learn tincture ratios and “tincture math” to blend a menstruum - Discussion of terminology, equipment, straining, labeling, resources, sourcing and more - Take home 2 2-oz tinctures (a $50 value!), hand-outs and enjoy an iced herbal drink!
